Pounds Per Pleasure is a practical method of assessing whether an individual is and how that individual can expend other resources in order most effectively convert them into hapiness.

It depends on a number of key assumptions :-

  1. That Joy is a delta of Happiness, eg. That lots of small events of joy can 'integrate' into an increase of happiness or h = ʃ f(j)dj where the interval is [0,t].

Pidgeon mathematics aside it basically means if you experience several instances of joy your base happiness will increase, a counter effect if you experience several instances of despair your sadness will increase which will neutralise your happiness.

  1. It is possible for an individual to quantitively rate how much joy they are experiencing at a given moment, this will be a subjective scale but needs to be expressed a number between -10 and 10.
