Memory Problem
The Memory Problem is one of several topics in the Origins of Man Evolutionary Branch and explores the issue that most of our input into our understanding of reality and our self is subject to time delay distortions.
It is stored and retrieved for use and both aspects of this process can introduce bias.
Effectively our consciousness relies on our record keeping ability and this can be highly inaccurate and biased.
It explores such concepts of:-
- Genetic Memory
- Cultural Memory at various levels from Family to the human race itself.
- Memory Abrasion and Decay
- Cascade Memory Accuracy Failures
It also talks about methodologies to double check memory accuracy including:-
- Supra-Agnosticism
- Memory check systems - sense checks and cross checks.
- Audit trail.
It also explores how an organism would evolve to ensure that memory is as accurate as possible (and in what stages), or if not how it would be eliminated by Natural Selection. Including linking to the Awe and Ignore evolutionary process that may be responsible for our core religious and supernatural beliefs.
It is linked to the Senses Problem which deals with the reliability of our information gathering equipment.
